Hero Simbu and director K.S.Ravikumar have recycled old masala
scenes for their latest film ‘Saravana’. This Tamil remake of
Telugu film ‘Bhadra’ is very similar to ‘Ghilli’ and there is
hardly any original scene in the film. Simbu’s character in
‘Saravana’ is just an extension of Vijay’s character in
‘Vaseegara’ and the scene of the maidservant suspecting a gay
relationship between Saravana and Krishna is taken from ‘Kal Ho
Naa Ho’. However, everything
has worked as planned by the director. He has said that all he
wants is a masala mix film for the mass audience
during the festive season. In the film, Saravana (Silambarasan)
and Krishna (Krishna) are close college friends. In the
meantime, Saravana falls in love with Krishna’s sister Sadhana
(Jyothika) on seeing her videotape, as she studies in London.
He then goes to a village near Tirunelveli with Krishna to see
her, but unluckily, there is a war between two caste groups.
The rival group Dorai Singam kills Krishna, his brother
Soundarapandi (Prakash Raj) and wife but Saravana manages to
save Sadhana and takes her to Chennai. Saravana’s large family
refuses to accept Sadhana initially but later begins to support
her after coming to know her background. You will have to watch
the film to know how Saravana tries to help Sadhana to go back
to London and how he single-handedly eliminates the entire gang
of Dorai Singam.
Simbu is the one-man-army of the film. He fights the war,
sings songs, delivers punch lines and cracks jokes. He is indeed
the life wire of the film with full of vigor and energy.
However, Jo lacks energy and her make up is not appropriate.
Moreover, she has put on some weight.
Vivek exposes the laughter veins of the viewers and Meghana
Naidu adds glamour to the film. Prakash Raj’s performance stands
out among the scores of supporting heroes and there is nothing
special in Srikanth Deva’s music. In nutshell, ‘Saravana’ is not
a very good film yet it is a good entertainer. |
