Director Seeman has pumped in lots of force and passion into his
latest film ‘Thambi’. He has also found an able support from
actor Madhavan, who is indeed the life wire of the film.
Communist revolutionary Cheguvara seems to have inspired him.
The hero’s body language and dictions speak volumes of the
director’s love for poet Bharathy, who is also known for
revolutionary ideas. This style of screenplay also goes in line
with director Shankar’s style. Whatever maybe, the credit for
making such an entertainer should go to Seeman. His communist
ideas and sharp dialogues are sure to enthrall and touch the
hearts of the viewers.
Angry young man Thambi Velu Thondaiman (Madhavan) fights
against all types of evils in the society. So, he runs into
Sankara Pandian (Biju Menon), a local rowdy who brings violence
into the city. He is determined to vanquish his activities in
the society and his fearless attitude brings fear into the face
of Sanakara Pandian's gang. Meanwhile, he comes across a pretty
girl name Archana (Pooja). She mistakes him as a gangster, as
she has seen him fighting with the rowdies. But she falls in
love with him after coming to know his true nature.
Thambi thrashes Sankara Pandian’s terrorizing plans with the
help of his close associates. At this very moment, a flashback
unravels how Sankara Pandian’s gang kills Thambi’s family after
Thambi identifies the killer of a youth. The murderer is
Sanakara Pandian's brother Shanmuga Pandian (Shanmuga Rajeswaran).
Shankara Pandian tries to bring about terror among the people
for political reasons and on the other hand, Thambi tries to
prevent the disaster. Later on, Thambi succeeds in changing
Shankara Pandian's heart. But Shanmuga Pandian is after his head
after coming out of the prison. The rest of the film is on
exciting encounters and titillating climax. It ends with a
positive note for everyone.
You will see the best of Maddy in this film. He seems to have
worked really hard on his body language, dialogue and emotions.
His performance has made a big difference to the film and his
expressive eyes speak volumes. Malluwood star Biju Menon is
equally impressive. He has proved that he can do action scenes
besides character roles. Pooja has made use of the opportunity
to act as Maddy’s heroine. Other casts of the film like
Ilavarasu, Vadivelu, Manivannan and Manobala also have delivered
the goods.
The technical aspect of the film is also fine.
Balasubramanyam’s cinematography has added beauty to the film.
Vidyasagar's music is also one of the highlights of the film. On
the flip side, a few romantic scenes between the lead pair slow
down the pace of the film.
All in all, the credit should go to director Seeman for
making a film with a message that fits the present society. It’s
a good film worth watching and Maddy’s fans should not miss it. |
