Director Simbudevan has succeeded in making ‘Imsai Arasan 23
Pulikesi’ a good hilarious entertainer. His choice of comedian
Vadivelu for the role of the prince in the film has made all the
difference.
Selfish Rajguru (Nassar) kills 22 potential princes and the
queen's brother with an intention of seizing Veera Chozhapura
Palayam kingdom. An astrologer predicts that the queen’s next
child will be an idiot, who will act in tune with his whims and
fancies. So, he feels pretty happy.
However, the queen gives birth to a twin. Now, Rajguru gives
one child to the astrologer and asks him to kill. Meanwhile, the
King and the Queen name one child as 23 am Pulikesi and the
other as Ugitaputhan. 23 am Pulikesi is a useless idiot, who
runs after pleasure and women. On the other hand, Ugitaputhan is
well educated and good at warfare. He decides to save his
kingdom after coming to know his past. He replaces Pulikesi and
begins to prepare for the fight against evil conspiracy. He
teaches Rajguru a lesson with the help of his commander-in-chief
(Sriman) in the end.
Comedy king Vadivelu plays a dual role for the first time in
this film besides making debut as a hero. He has managed to
catch the attention of the viewers with his sneak
acting
skills. The way he
and his soldiers prepare for the war look good. Nassar, Sriman,
Manorama and others have done justice to their roles. Technical
aspect of the film is also good with good music by Sabesh –
Murali and
art
direction by
Krishnamurthy.
On the whole, it’s a good entertainer. Vadivelu deserves
praises for managing to make an impact as a hero. |
